Jeremiah 6:16
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls…”
Jeremiah 6:16 begins with,
“Stand in the ways and see…”
Stand in the ways , stop before you drift any further.
Before God says walk, He says stand. Sometimes the first instruction from God is not “run.” “build.” “expand.”
or “go.” Sometimes God says “STOP.”
“Because speed in the wrong direction only increases your distance from the right destination.”
When alignment is lost, acceleration becomes dangerous.
There are seasons when God interrupts your momentum because He loves your destiny too much to allow your speed to destroy you.
David understood this principle that’s why he said:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart… and see if there be any wicked way in me.” Psalm 139:23-24
David was essentially saying.
“Lord, before I continue walking, examine the road I am walking on.”
Never become so committed to movement that you refuse God’s invitation to examination.
Every spiritual alignment will require discernment.
Jeremiah continues.
“Stand in the ways, and see…”
The root meaning carries the idea of looking carefully, perceiving and considering.
God is saying:
“Examine where this road is taking you.”
Not everything that looks like progress is progress.
Proverbs 14:12 warns:
“There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
“Notice, It seemed right.
The danger was not that it looked evil. The danger was that it looked right while leading wrongly.”
Deception does not always present itself as darkness; sometimes it presents itself as a reasonable alternative to obedience.
That is why discernment is necessary. Ask:
Where is my prayer life going? Where is my hunger going? Where is my marriage going?
Where is my character going? Where is my ministry going?
Where is my relationship with my friends going?where is this addiction and drunkenness taking me?
Do not only ask whether something is working. Ask where it is taking you. Amen!
