Matthew 16:15-18
“He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God….”
The greatest question Jesus ever asked was not to unbelievers, but to His own disciples, those walking with Him. “Who do you say I am?” This is not a theological quiz, it’s a spiritual unveiling.
“Until Christ is revealed to you by the Father, you may admire Him, serve Him, and even quote Him, but you will not know Him in the power of who He truly is.”
The depth of your Christian life is rooted in your “personal revelation of Christ,” and not just in what others say, not in tradition, but in spirit-born insight of Christ.
Jesus asked, Who do men say I am?” Their answers reflected public opinion, assumptions, and human perspective of Him. But Jesus wanted to know who His own believed He was.
Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Peter saw something others missed. He tapped into revelation knowledge, and this was not mental understanding. And Jesus affirmed this saying;
“Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”
“Revelation is Heaven’s download.” You cannot discover Christ in His fullness through your logic. It must be revealed by the Spirit of God. “Thou art the Christ “
The word Christ is not Jesus’ surname, “it is His mantle and mission.”
“Christ means The Anointed One and His Anointing.”
He is the burden remover, the yoke destroyer (Isaiah 10:27)
When you receive the revelation of Jesus as Christ, your chains will fall off, the scales will fall off from your eyes, your identity is unlocked, and He becomes your source of power, joy, peace, healing, purpose of your boast.
While others saw a prophet. Peter saw a Deliverer.
“…Upon this “rock” I will build My Church…”(v. 18)
What rock? “The rock of revelation.” Not the revelation of the man Peter, but the revelation Peter received.
“It’s worth emphasising that, The Church that carries the revelation of Jesus Christ is the Church the gates of hell cannot stop.”
Religion may give you knowledge, but revelation of Christ gives you authority.
Hell fears a person and the Church that knows who Christ is.
“Jesus didn’t say, I will build my church on feelings, on gifts, on fame, on crowds. He builds on revelation of Christ, because only revelation can withstand storms and resist the enemy. Amen!
