Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
God created humanity to bear His image, and through Jesus Christ, He restores us to reflect His character and glory.
Your story begins with the purpose of your Creator. Before there was a temptation to overcome, there was an identity to receive. Before there was work to perform, there was a relationship to enjoy.
God placed you on earth to make His goodness visible through your life. Your hands were to serve His purposes. Words were to express His truth. Relationships were to display His love. And authority was to reflect His righteous rule.
“Then sin entered. Fellowship was broken. Human desires became disordered. People created to reflect God began hiding from Him. Yet God did not abandon His purpose.”
Your identity begins with the image of God.”
The word translated “image” means exact representation. While“Likeness” means resemblance.
That means humanity was created to represent God within His creation.
This gives every human being dignity. People have worth before they become successful, wealthy, educated, or influential.
James 3:9
“But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly.
poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.”
The above scripture speak of humanity in relation to God’s image after the fall. Sin corrupts our expression of that image; but does not erase human dignity.
Your worth rests on God’s creative intention before it rests on anyone’s opinion.
However, bearing God’s image does not mean you possess all His attributes. You are not all-knowing, all-powerful, or present everywhere. You are creature dependent on your Creator.
You are called to reflect His communicable qualities like love, holiness, truthfulness, mercy, justice, faithfulness, kindness etc.
Through the Power of the Holy Spirit, you can resist sin and increasingly express these qualities.
A mirror does not create the light it reflects. Its usefulness depends on its relationship to the light.
Likewise, your calling is to receive from God and faithfully reflect what He reveals. Therefore, your dependence on God is essential in reflecting Christ. Amen!

Transformed Into His Image – Part 2

Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Today, We are looking at three purposes of bearing His image.
These three purposes bring together the teaching of Genesis and the wider witness of Scripture.
To begin with, you are called to represent His rule;
Genesis 1:26 connects God’s image with humanity’s responsibility to exercise dominion.
This is delegated stewardship. We are accountable for how we treat people, manage resources, exercise influence, and care for creation.
In Matthew 22:20-21,
“And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Jesus asks whose image appears on the coin. The answer is Caesar’s.
The coin provides a useful illustration. “An image identifies the authority it represented.” Humanity bears God’s image and therefore owes God wholehearted allegiance.
Wherever God gives you influence, He calls you to make His character visible.
At home, represent His patience. In business, represent His integrity.
In leadership, represent His justice.
And in ministry, represent His compassion.
Again, You are called to live in relationship with Him;
Genesis 3:8 records God was walking in the garden in the cool of the day and the fallen couple hiding from Him. The scene exposes the tragedy of broken fellowship.
People made for communion had become afraid of the One who made them.
Thanks be to God, Through Christ, we are reconciled to God and we have received access to the Father by the Spirit. Ephesians 2:18.
It’s important to remember that transformation deepens, as fellowship with God becomes a daily reality. Prayer, Scripture, worship, and obedience draw us into an active relationship with Him.
And lastly, to reflect His glory;
First Peter 2:9 describes God’s people as chosen and called to proclaim His excellencies.
And His goodness becomes visible through your conduct as well as your words.
When you forgive, serve, tell the truth, and show mercy, you give people a living testimony of His work.
“The glory you proclaim, should shape the character you display.” Amen.
